    This solution provides advanced SNMP trap management for ADC’s Digivance™ Long-Range Coverage Solution (LRCS). The Digivance LRCS is an all-digital RF distribution system that optically transports RF signals to difficult coverage areas. One point-to-point RF transport link consists of a host unit, remote unit, and element management software.

    The picture below illustrates the architecture of LRCS alarm monitoring solution implemented with NetDecision.

    Trap management solution architecture

    Each bank of ADC equipment (up to 24 Digivance LRCS links) is managed by ADC Digivance EMS Software that simplifies operation and maintenance of the system. Together with Digivance SNMP proxy agent it provides SNMP monitoring of ADC equipment as well as sends out SNMP traps when a specific event occurs on the equipment.

    SNMP proxy agent also hosts MIBs for LRCS systems.

    Digivance SNMP proxy agent sends SNMP traps to a local instance of NetDecision TrapVision installed on the same site as N banks of ADC equipment. This instance of TrapVision (we'll call it "Remote") receives traps, resolves trap variable and stores trap data in the local database.

    Quite often ADC equipment sends out traps with status ‘OK’ few seconds after sending ‘Major’ or ‘Minor’ trap. This means that the problem encountered on the equipment has gone and there is no need to take any action. Such behavior creates a storm of traps that clear each other and therefore don’t need to be displayed on the front-end. Considering this the primary reason for having Remote TrapVision installation is to filter out cleared traps and escalate those traps that have not been cleared within some period of time (usually several minutes) which makes them truly severe.

    Remote TrapVision instances send severe traps to Primary and Redundant TrapVision servers located at NOC. TrapVision at NOC stores traps in the SQLServer database for further use by 3rd party web reporting tool. Primary TrapVision would also provide user with the view of received traps colorised accorting trap severity with trap description and values resolved base on MIB definitions.

    Using Remote Management Console

    Remote Management Console is an application, that allows to monitor multiple instances of TrapVision and/or LogVision applications running on local or remote servers. With Remote Management Console, you can easily connect to another computer running TrapVision Server, see if TrapVision Server is running and turn on/off maintenance mode when all incoming traps are ignored. The picture below demonstrates the main window of Remote Management Console.
