    NetDecision 5.2 Release Notes

    All

    • The logging facility now supports deduplication of log messages.
    • The logging facility now supports and displays user audit information.
    • The product has been thoroughly tested on Windows 8.1 and all tests were passed.
    • The SNMP walk procedure now uses GET-BULK requests instead of GET-NEXT for SNMPv2C and SNMPv3. So the walk is now 10 times faster.
    • The default value of SNMP version parameter has been changed from SNMPv1 to SNMPv2C for all applications.
    • SNMP values of type Counter64 are now displayed properly.
    • SNMP values of type TimeTick are now properly parsed and displayed if the length of corresponding unsigned integer in SNMP PDU = 5 bytes.

    LaunchPad

    • The LauchPad now has built-in user based security subsystem that implements:
      • Role based access to Deployment resources
      • Users management
      • Login/Log out
      • User auditing
      • Password Policy
    • The LaunchPad is now capable of adding multiple hosts to a deployment at once. This functionality is implemented in new “Add Hosts Wizard”. The user should provide the input data in .csv format.
    • The LaunchPad now implements “Bulk Delete” functionality to delete the following elements:
      • Hosts
      • Tasks
      • Agents
    • The list of context menu options added for Deployment tree node to access Bulk operations and Backup wizard
    • The LaunchPad now provides an ability to define and execute custom commands for deployment nodes
    • The LaunchPad now supports integer enumerated values as task parameters
    • The LaunchPad is now capable of importing/exporting application settings as XML files.
    • The user can toggle log deduplication off
    • The LaunchPad component model is now fully customizable. The user is now capable of removing unused components (Script Studio Tasks, Smart Agents, TrapVision, LogVision)
    • The LauchPad now detects if deployment configuration file has been changed outside the application and reloads it on user prompt or automatically.
    • The LauchPad now implements automatic monitoring of remote log files. There is an option to toggle this on/off.
    • The user can now dynamically add/remove log tabs in output bar
    • The LauchPad can now reboot remote host
    • The LaunchPad now supports tile group bounds. So the user can customize the colors, gradients, borders and visibility of tile groups
    • The algorithm that verifies that node already exists in deployment has been significantly improved:
      • The LauchPad now uses case-insensitive search when checking for duplicate nodes in deployment
      • The LaunchPad now verifies the DNS suffix when checking for duplicate nodes in deployment to make sure that in case if short host name is specified it does not correspond to the same node with long host name (with DNS suffix).
      • The LaunchPad now verifies if corresponding node specified by IP address exists in a deployment if user specifies fully qualified DNS name when adding new node and vice versa.
    • The functionality of Find Node window has been significantly extended. The Find window now displays all nodes that match search string.
    • The user is now capable of searching for nodes using standard Find dialog in Upload Manager
    • The user is now capable of searching for nodes using standard Find dialog in Target Hosts page of Backup wizard
    • The user is now capable of searching for nodes using standard Find dialog in Target Hosts page of Bulk Add Tasks wizard
    • The user is now capable of searching for nodes using standard Find dialog in Target Hosts page of Bulk Add Agents wizard
    • New context menu options have been added to Expand/Collapse selected Deployment tree nodes.
    • The bug in remote host license activation procedure has been fixed
    • The LaunchPad no longer allows the user to specify non-digit symbols in Port edit box of Node configuration window.
    • The LaunchPad now displays free disk space on remote host in GB if the value is greater than 1024 MB
    • The task item color in tree now corresponds to default color for “STOPPED” state
    • The LaunchPad now expands only tree folder that contains newly added element in Deployment Tree, not entire tree
    • The LaunchPad now displays hosts and groups (in deployment tree) in alphabetical order
    • The LaunchPad now checks if task with specified name already exists when adding new task (including Bulk Add Task wizard)
    • The LauchPad now automatically updates task parameters if changed on remote host.
    • The LaunchPad now automatically updates current properties (in Properties bar) if changed outside.
    • The LaunchPad now automatically updates tile labels in current view if label format has changed in appearance settings.
    • The LaunchPad now detects and warns the user if newly deployed Smart Agent uses the same admin port as existing Smart Agent
    • The LaunchPad now retrieves the NetDecision version installed on remote host
    • The LaunchPad now allows the user to view application log file using LogViewer

    Performance Vision

    • The Performance Vision now properly creates ODBC DSN used in DB value handler
    • The Email handler now supports Transport Layer Security (TLS) protocol

    Smart Agent

    • The SNMP Device Recording/Capturing now works much faster
    • The Smart Agent now properly creates ODBC DSN for default SNMP Values DB (used only for DB mapped values)
    • The Smart Agent now has the option to save its configuration automatically on periodic basis.
    • The COUNTER64 values are now properly displayed / edited in MIB table view (no longer truncated to 32-bit value).

    MIB Browser

    • Ctrl-F keyboard shortcut now opens Find window
    • Ctrl-O keyboard shortcut now opens topology file
    • Alt-Enter keyboard shortcut now open SNMP Agent Configuration window
    • The Network Discovery now works much faster
    • The SNMP Walk now works much faster
    • The SNMP Get Table now works much faster
    • Switching between agent configurations in Agent bar now loads target MIB file only (no more extra MIB loading for default agent configuration)
    • The COUNTER64 values are now properly displayed in MIB table. (No longer truncated to 32-bit value).
    • The Get Table window now saves/restores window position.

    MIB Manager

    • The parsing of MODULE-IDENTITY has been improved
    • The icon next to a file in File Browser is now changed to “IN PROGRESS” while compiling during Batch Compile procedure

    Network Manager

    • The Network Manager now implements Copy/Paste functionality for Notification Filters
    • The Network Manager now implements Import/Export functionality for Notification Filters
    • The items in topology tree are now displayed in alphabetical order
    • The trap processing performance has been improved
    • The Email handler now supports Transport Layer Security (TLS) protocol
    • The Event Configuration window (List of managed elements) is now resizable
    • Managed Elements are now displayed in alphabetical order in Event Configuration window
    • The user is now capable to do a quick search in Event Configuration window (List of Managed elements) by typing the name of Managed Element or network address
    • The Network Manager now loads notifications from DB much faster. Now it takes 20 seconds to load 38000 traps from DB (Previously it would took 15-20 minutes to load).
    • The Network Manager now toggles Maintenance Mode for selected elements much faster (in previous version this would take 10-20 minutes if there are several thousand SNMP notifications in the system).
    • The new attribute “Managed Element” added to Notification Details window to display the name and network address of the network element which has originated this notification.
    • The user is now capable to use handy “Go To Managed Element” menu item from Notifications list window option to select target Managed Element in topology.
    • The user is now capable to forward selected SNMP notifications to other IP destination using now “Forward” menu option.
    • The trap handling sequence can now be interrupted if “Stop execution for this trap” option has been toggled on in Event Handler configuration.
    • The bug which caused system to crash on acknowledge/clear of notifications has been fixed
    • The ribbon item which opens SNMP Notification Filters Editor is now stippled out if Design mode is OFF
    • The user is now able to open Linked Document for selected SNMP notification using Ribbon button or context menu option if it has been previously assigned in Assign Troubleshooting Information window
    • The user is now able to open Trouble Ticker URL for selected SNMP notification using Ribbon button or context menu option if it has been previously assigned in Assign Troubleshooting Information window
    • The Network Manager now properly displays initial topology view (root layer diagram) when the application is started in maximized window mode
    • The Network Manager now supports exporting and importing of trap handlers configuration.
    • The Network Manager now automatically sets up Alert Element if it has not been configured by user in Trap Handler configuration

    Parameter Editor

    • The Parameter Editor now supports integer enumerations
    • The Parameter Editor now supports 64-bit integers
    • The parameters list view now uses proper visual manager theme
    • The Parameter Editor no longer crashes when changing type of array element (variable)
    • The Parameter Editor now properly handles 64-bit integers (no longer truncates to 32-bit value)

    SNMP User Manager

    • The SNMP User Manager now selects entire row in table when users selects profile(s).
    • The main application view (list view) now uses proper visual manager theme

    Trap Simulator

    • The Trap Simulator now selects entire list row when users selects trap(s).
    • The Ctrl-A shortcut can now be used to select all traps. The Enter key can be used to modify selected trap and Shift-Del shortcut can be used to delete selected traps.
    • The main application view (list view) now uses proper visual manager theme

    LogVision

    • The user is now able to open Linked Document for selected message/event using Ribbon button or context menu option if it has been previously assigned in Assign Troubleshooting Information window
    • The user is now able to open Trouble Ticker URL for selected message/event using Ribbon button or context menu option if it has been previously assigned in Assign Troubleshooting Information window
    • The Email handler now supports Transport Layer Security (TLS) protocol
    • The bug when the user was not able to assign troubleshooting information for selected Windows Log event has been fixed
    • The bug when the user was not able to execute custom tool for selected Windows Log event has been fixed

    TrapVision

    • The trap processing performance has been improved
    • The Email handler now supports Transport Layer Security (TLS) protocol

    LogViewer

    • The LogViewer now displays the number of log messages in status bar

    Script Studio

    • The task sheet is now marked as modified when the user renames/deletes the script which is used in task.
    • The Script Studio now notifies remote LauchPad Anywhere if task parameters have changed.

    Service Manager

    • The NetDecision Script Studio service is now configured with “Keep Alive” option enabled.
    • The Service Manager now reports the NetDecision version installed on remote host
    • The Service Manager now reports the last modification time for log files user retrieve
    • The Service Manager now supports machine Reboot functionality

    Quick Launcher

    • The shortcuts to deprecated NOCVision and Remote Management Console applications have been removed

    Scripting

    • The foreach loop can now iterate through snmppdu and string variables.
    • It is now allowed to redefine the variable within a scope (for-loop, if statement, etc).
    • The for-loop now properly works (does not give an error) when condition variable is defined within for-statement .
    • The DnsQuery() function has been added that provides full access to DNS facility
    • The Logon() function has been added that attempts to authenticate user on local computer.
    • The Reboot() function has been added that restarts local computer.
    • The GetHostDnsSuffix() function has been added to get the name of the DNS domain assigned to the local computer.
    • The SendMail() function now supports Transport Layer Security (TLS) and Secure Socket Layer (SSL) protocols
    • The SendMail() function now supports CRAM_MD5, PLAIN and NTLM authentication in addition to LOGIN authentication.
    • The SeedRand() function has been added to set random starting point for Rand() routine
    • The SetEnv() function has been added to set the value of environment variable
    • The GetArrayIndex() function can now take array parameter by name. It is much faster to pass array parameter by name then by value.
    • New application wide in-memory cache has been implemented:
      • AddCacheEntry - Adds new entry to in-memory cache.
      • RemoveCacheEntry - Removes exisiting entry from in-memory cache.
      • RemoveAllCacheEntries - Removes all entries from in-memory cache.
      • GetCacheEntriesCount - Returns the total number of cache entries in the cache.
      • CacheLookup - Gets a cache entry that correspond to the specified key.
      • FindEntryInCache - Finds entry in cache by value.
      • CacheLoad - Loads cache content from XML file.
      • CacheSave - Saves cached data to XML file.
      • CacheToString - Returns a string that represents the current cache content.
    • New DB related functions have been implemented:
      • CreateDataSource – creates new system ODBC data source
      • RemoveDataSource- removes existing ODBC data source
      • DBSetLoginTimeout - sets the number of seconds allowed before an attempted data source connection times out.
      • DBSetQueryTimeout - sets the number of seconds to allow before subsequent operations on the connected data source time out.
    • New RS-232 functions added:
      • OpenSerialPort() function can now be used with flow control parameter
      • WriteSerialControlChar ( int port, char specialChar )
      • SetFlowControl ( int port, int flowControl )
      • ClearSerialDTR ( int port )
      • ClearSerialRTS ( int port )
      • SetSerialDTR ( int port )
      • SetSerialRTS ( int port )
      • SetSerialXOFF ( int port )
      • SetSerialXON ( int port )
      • SetSerialBreak ( int port )
      • ClearSerialBreak ( int port )
      • GetSerialModemStatus ( int port )
    • The bug related to assignment of multidimensional array element has been fixed.
    • The bug related to UNICODE strings has been fixed in DBSelect() function (now functions works properly with native Oracle ODBC driver)
    • The performance of DBSelect() function has been significantly improved (up to 20-30 times faster on huge data sets)
    • The SCMGetServiceInfo() function can now take the name of the service as the parameter. So the user will be able to check the status of particular service without iteration through all services.
    • The performance of arrays has been significantly improved
    • The set of functions to work with parameter files has been extended to support integer enumerated values:
      • GetParameterEnumValues - Gets the integer enumerated values.
      • GetParameterEnumValue - Gets the integer value of enumerated entry by name.
      • GetEnumValueNameFromInt - Gets the name of enumerated entry by value.
