    NetDecision 5.3 Release Notes

    All Applications

    • The NetDecision logging facility (.ndlog) now implements automatic rotation of log files based on number of log records.
    • The NetDecision logging facility (.ndlog) now implements “Delayed SNMP traps sending” option.
    • The performance and reliability of NetDecision XML messaging protocol (NXMP) have been significantly improved.
    • The NetDecision codebase is now 100% UNICODE. All applications now run at least 20% faster as the Windows kernel itself is UNICODE. Unicode is a computing industry standard for the consistent encoding, representation and handling of text expressed in most of the world's writing systems.
    • The NetDecision has been significantly refactored, meaning the codebase is considerably improved. All applications now use common configuration, logging and other facilities.
      • The installation size has decreased from 55 MB to 47 MB due to unification of codebase.
      • The sizes of executables have been decreased due to unification of NetDecision components.
    • The set of supported GUI themes is now common for all applications.
    • All NetDecision applications now use common generic handling facility (nd_handlerslib.dll) to process SNMP traps, syslog messages, Windows event log records, SNMP polling data, etc.
    • The layout and usability of handler configuration windows has been unified.
    • The play sound handler configuration window now allows the user to play the selected sound file before it is used.
    • The NetDecision Script Server has been deprecated and removed from installation package.
    • The loading of compiled MIB files (in CMF format) now works much faster.

    LaunchPad

    • The LaunchPad is now capable of configuring trap handlers on remote TrapVision server.
    • The LaunchPad is now capable of configuring syslog message and eventlog record handlers on remote LogVision server.
    • The LaunchPad overall performance and the responsiveness of the interface on huge deployments have been improved.
    • The Login window layout has been improved.
    • The Login window now shows up before main window for security reasons.
    • The LaunchPad main view no longer displays blank space on the left if some application components are disabled.
    • The LaunchPad now allows the user to delete groups with nodes.
    • The LaunchPad now displays the extended task information in Properties bar including script assigned, script folder and parameter file name assigned.
    • The CPU, RAM, Disk space are now properly updated in Properties window if Status tree node is selected.
    • The extended stats are displayed in Properties bar for deployment, hosts, groups, tasks, agents and others items including connection and running states, number of nodes/ tasks/agents, etc. This information is updated dynamically.
    • The LaunchPad no longer expands Deployment tree nodes when the node connection state is changed from DISCONNECTED to CONNECTED during automatic reconnect procedure.
    • The LaunchPad now allows the user to restart remote NetDecision applications running as Windows services.
    • The LaunchPad now allows the user to edit the list of Smart Agent trap destinations and related parameters.
    • The LaunchPad now reports if the log file on remote host does not exist or there was read error.
    • The LaunchPad now allows the user to configure “Delayed SNMP traps sending” option for log facility.
    • The following additional log files can now be retrieved from remote hosts:
      • Network Manager application log
      • Network Manager autodiscovery log
      • TrapVision application log
      • LogVision application log
      • Smart Agent application log
      • Performance Vision Server application log
      • NOCVision Server application log
      • TFTP Server application log
    • The LaunchPad now allows the user to configure application log settings of Smart Agent running on remote host

    Network Manager

    • The Network Manager now implements SNMP notification filter actions similar to trap handler actions.
    • The Network Manager now displays the DNS name in Notification window if Resolve IP addresses option is enabled in Application Settings.
    • The Network Manager now properly sets the name of NE that originated the alarm (Alert Element) when SNMP trap is handled by Event handler.
    • The Network Manager now allows the user to configure “Delayed SNMP traps sending” option for log facility.
    • The Network Manager Autodiscovery log now uses standard NetDecision logging facility.
    • The auto-save mode has been implemented for application log. This option is configured via Applications Settings window.
    • The Trap Forward handler now supports “Forward as TRAPv1” option similar to TrapVision.
    • The Trap Forward handler now properly checks if specified trap destination is already configured.
    • The Script Server has been deprecated.

    TrapVision

    • The TrapVision now supports remote configuration of trap handlers via NetDecision Anywhere LaunchPad.
    • The auto-save mode has been implemented for application log. This option is configured via Applications Settings window.
    • The applications settings window usability has been significantly improved.
    • The .tvl file footprint has been reduced.
    • The TrapVision now has built-in memory (heap) defragmentation. So the application reliability has been significantly improved on long runs.
    • The Performance Monitor customization has been improved. The presentation layer of Performance Monitor subsystem now consists of 3 docking panes – clock, performance gauge and performance chart. (all these docking windows are now hidden by default)
    • The TrapVision now resets MIB resolving cache if user loads new MIB file.
    • The Trap Forward handler now properly checks if specified trap destination is already configured.

    LogVision

    • The LogVision now supports remote configuration of trap handlers via NetDecision Anywhere LaunchPad.
    • The auto-save mode has been implemented for application log. This option is configured via Applications Settings window.
    • The applications settings window usability has been significantly improved.

    MIB Manager

    • The application now loads MIB files much faster.
    • The application now compiles MIBs much faster.
    • The properties window now indicates if selected object is MIB table index.
    • The MIB Manager now uses paragraph tags when exporting DESCRIPTION field data to HTML to make to simulate indentation and line breaks found in original ASCII data.
    • The list of compiled MIB modules names is now persisted to CMF.

    Parameter Editor

    • The bug related to editing of array elements has been fixed.

    Service Manager

    • The Service Manager now supports NXMP command to restart service applications.
    • The Service Manager now notifies the LaunchPad if the requested log file does not exist or there was read error

    Performance Vision

    • The Network Discovery implemented in Performance Vision now uses Get-Bulk to retrieve node interfaces.
    • The Performance Vision now uses common NetDecision XML Log (.ndlog) format to save the application log data.

    NOCVision Server

    • The Network Discovery implemented in NOCVision server now uses Get-Bulk to retrieve node interfaces.
    • The NOCVision now uses common NetDecision XML Log (.ndlog) format to save the application log data.
    • The procedure of adding MIBs to MIB repository has been simplified. Now it works just like its implemented in TrapVision.
    • The NOCVision now implements printing of log.

    MIB Browser

    • The MIB Object properties window now indicates if selected object is table index.

    Trap Simulator

    • The .trp file footprint has been reduced.

    Smart Agent

    • The auto-save mode has been implemented for application log. This option is configured via Applications Settings window.

    LogViewer

    • The LogViewer now displays summary and detailed log messages stats for loaded log file
      • Stacked chart grouped by log message type/category
      • Pie chart grouped by severity
    • The printing functionality has been implemented.
    • The user can now export log files data to HTML.

    Script Studio

    • The Script Studio now has built-in memory (heap) defragmentation facility. So the application reliability has been significantly improved on long runs.

    Performance Vision server

    • The Performance Vision server now uses standard NetDecision logging facility.
    • The Performance Vision server now implements printing of log.

    TFTP Server

    • The TFTP server now uses standard NetDecision log facility (ndlog). The log file can now be viewed in NetDecision Log Viewer and can be retrieved from NetDecision LaunchPad.
    • The TFTP server supports automatic log saving mode
    • The TFTP server log supports rotation
    • The TFTP server can now print the content of an application log
    • The user is now capable of configuring TFTP server application log settings

    Scripting

    • The language now supports TCP server sockets. You can now create TCP listeners that do accept client connections using the following functions:
      • TCPListen – to listen for incoming TCP connections
      • TCPAcceptConnection – to accept TCP connection
    • The new function SCMStopService() has been implemented to stop Windows Service (requires admin privileges).
    • The script language now has built-in performance analyzer. The user can call EnableProfiler() to use it. The results of performance analysis are presented as HTML table data.
    • The script language now implements UTF-8 conversion routines:
      • ToUTF8
      • FromUTF8
    • SendMail functions now use UTF-8 to send out emails.
    • The workaround for well-known Gmail attachment bug (noname.txt) is implemented in SendMail function.
