    NetDecision Trap Simulator

NetDecision Trap Simulator is a utility, which is used to send SNMP traps and informs (SNMPv1 TRAPs, SNMPv2 TRAPs, INFORMs). This utility is very useful on development stage of your network management system.

For example, when a topology is created in NetDecision Network Manager the user will be able to verify the configuration of each network element in the topology by sending SNMP trap to it.

The following notification types are supported by NetDecision Trap Simulator

    • SNMP Trap v1
    • SNMP Trap v2
    • SNMP Inform

SNMP variables can be selected from the MIB tree or specified manually. MIB files, used by Trap Simulator are NetDecision compiled MIB files (CMF). By default RFC1213-mib will be available. However, the MIB file can be easily selected using browse button. One click on the MIB tree scalar object allows the user to specify the value. Once the value is specified, the variable can be added to the variable binding list by clicking Add... button. There is another way to add the variable to the variable binding list. The variable with automatically generated value will be added to the list by double clicking on the MIB scalar object in the MIB tree.

If the MIB file has any trap definitions, Traps folder will be available in the MIB tree. The user will be able to add all SNMP variables, available in the trap definition, to the trap PDU by double clicking on the trap in the MIB tree.

    • Traps might be send from more than one originator. The IP address of the trap originator can be added and/or deleted from the list of the trap originators.
    • The user can specify timestamp value or current system time can be used.
    • A port number other than 162 can be specified as a trap destination port.
    • There is an ability to send traps in a loop.
    • SNMPv3 USM parameters can be specified to send traps to SNMPv3 destination.
